The quiet room of the backgrounds collection. Mother Nature is the one gallery here and it works at two distances. Wide, it is forest, tall pine trunks receding into warm haze, canopy seen from directly above, light coming down in shafts between the trees. Close, it is texture, moss over stone, bark grain, fern fronds and leaf veins in dappled gold. Nothing in it is dramatic, and that is the point of it. These are the backdrops meant to sit behind something else without competing with it, where the gothic and abstract rooms would take the picture over.
