Content Rating

Every gallery on Art by Innovation follows a PG-13 rating, in line with PG-13 movie standards. This page is the standard we apply, so that anyone browsing knows what they are about to see, and anyone publishing here knows in advance where their work will sit.

PG-13

Every gallery on the site. Anyone can browse them, signed in or not, and they are the galleries search engines see.

What PG-13 allows:

  • The nude figure, treated as figure work rather than as explicit content.
  • Full rear nudity. The buttocks may be completely visible.
  • Breasts implied — suggested, partial, from the side, or obscured by hair, an arm, fabric, shadow or the framing itself. Almost visible, not visible.
  • Sensual, romantic and suggestive work, so long as nothing below is shown.

What PG-13 does not allow:

  • No frontal nudity. No visible penis and no visible vagina, at any size, in any part of the frame.
  • No fully exposed breasts. If they are fully shown rather than implied, the piece is not published here.
  • No depiction of a sexual act.

Never published

  • Work that depicts, or appears to depict, a minor in a sexual context. This is absolute, it applies to stylized and fictional work exactly as it applies to realistic work, and there is no artistic exception to it.
  • Anything unlawful.
  • Work that identifies a real person without their consent.

Material of this kind is removed on sight and the account is closed, without notice and without refund. We report it where the law requires.

Who decides, and what that means for your work

All work is reviewed before it is published, and Art by Innovation decides whether it meets the PG-13 standard. If a piece does not, we may move it to a gallery that fits, or decline it.

That is a labeling and placement decision and nothing more. We do not crop, cover, censor, or otherwise edit an artist’s image to make it fit a rating. What we publish is the work you submitted, or we do not publish it. Declining a piece takes no rights in it: it stays yours, and you are free to publish it anywhere else.

If you think we got it wrong

Ratings are a judgment call at the edges, and edge cases are where a standard earns its keep. If you are an artist and you believe a piece of yours has been rated wrongly, write to [email protected] with the piece and your reasoning, and we will look at it again.

The same goes if you are simply looking at the site. If you come across something you think goes beyond PG-13, tell us at the same address. A note saying which image it was and what you expected is exactly what we need. We read every one and we make the call ourselves; a report does not re-rate anything on its own.
