In the shadowed potions vault their cauldrons pour colored smoke; in the ancient crypt beneath the castle they send books and candles drifting through the dark. A guardian serpent of gold light coils beside them on the castle bridge, and from the north tower roof a serpent of lightning writhes through the storm clouds.
