Introducing our Train Art Album

Train Art photographs locomotives like portraits, with no engineers or passengers in the frame: just the machine, the track and the light. It opens with the classics, steam and streamliners.

For anyone who grew up with a model railroad or still stops at a crossing to watch, this is the album.

What is inside

One gallery so far, 109 images, with Modern Trains on the way.

• Classic Trains: steam locomotives and streamliners on trestles, prairie curves and mountain passes, including Big Boy 4014, Daylight 4449, the Flying Scotsman and Mallard, 109 images.

The settings are the golden age of rail: steam plumes against snowy alpine skies, black boilers crossing wooden trestles, prairie rails glowing at golden hour, brick roundhouses at dawn and stainless streamliners along the Great Lakes shore.

A second gallery, Modern Trains, is in the works and will bring today’s high-speed bullet trains into the album.

The legends are all here. American steam is represented by Big Boy 4014, Daylight 4449, the J Class 611, the K4 Pacific and the New York Central Hudson, and British streamlined steam by Mallard, the Flying Scotsman and their A4 and Princess cousins. A Shinkansen sweeping past Mount Fuji under cherry blossom gives a first glimpse of the modern era.

Every frame is a magazine-cover composition, with the locomotive as the subject and the landscape setting the mood: amber gaslight on a station platform at dusk, steam drifting through a forested river valley, a red-rock canyon cutting in the desert.

Everything is rendered in UHD, with the rivets, valve gear and steam detail sharp enough for a large print.

How people use them

• Wall art. Prints for dens, offices and model railroad rooms.
• Wallpaper. Full UHD for desktops and large displays.
• Gifts. A locomotive portrait for a rail fan.
• Presentations. Visuals for railway museums, clubs and history events.

Every gallery is free to browse at preview size, members download the full-size UHD files, and complete galleries are also given away free if you want to start there. The rest of the Transportation album holds airplanes, boats and cars.
