Introducing our Myth and History Female Art Album

Myth and History Female Art brings legendary women forward, from the last pharaoh of Egypt to a teenager who led an army and a modern superhero with lightning in her veins.

Each gallery treats its woman as a life rather than a pin-up, following her through the places and moments that made her story.

What is inside

Four galleries, 425 images in all.

• Helen of Troy: Helen’s life in five moments, from Sparta to the night Troy burns, 131 images.
• Joan of Arc: young women in chrome-bright leather carrying the banner across burning ground, 101 images.
• Queen Cleopatra: the last pharaoh in full royal regalia, from throne rooms to the Nile, 100 images.
• Auravolta: an electric superhero story in sixteen scenes across San Francisco and Berkeley, 93 images.

Three of the galleries reach back into history and legend. Helen of Troy is told in order, from before the war to after it. Joan of Arc stays on the battlefield, and Queen Cleopatra holds court in gold and lapis.

Auravolta is the modern story in the album, a new myth with its own rules: gold veins at rest, gold arcs when she charges, and a final scene with no glow at all.

The women in these galleries come from every background, and the settings are researched rather than generic, from the painted megaron at Sparta and the Scaean Gate to the Doe Library at Berkeley, the Alexandrian palace halls and the siege lines of the Hundred Years War.

Every image is rendered in UHD, with period detail in the costumes, armor and settings that holds up close.
