Zeus: Painting a Greek God as a Man

Zeus has joined the Myth and History collection, and he is a man rather than a monument.
That was the whole brief. Almost every Zeus you have seen is marble — white, smooth, seated, and about as warm as a bank lobby. The god in this gallery has a silver-gray beard going white at the edges, pale electric-blue eyes, weather on his skin, and the build of someone who has never had to ask for anything twice. He is draped in white linen or a crimson himation that leaves most of him bare, and lightning runs up his forearms in thin blue threads or breaks white above an open hand.
The settings are weather rather than architecture. A high terrace above the cloud line with the wind coming hard across it. Wet flagstones after a storm has passed through. A dark throne hall lit by a single fire basin, where the only warm light in the frame is coming off burning oil. There is one throne frame in roughly every sixteen, and that ratio is on purpose — a god sitting down is a portrait, and I wanted the storm.
The detail I kept coming back to is that he is nearly always at ease. Shoulders down, weight on one leg, an expression somewhere between bored and amused while the sky comes apart behind him. That is the difference between a powerful character and a straining one. If the lightning looks like effort, he is not the king of the gods — he is a man doing a difficult trick. So the storm had to cost him nothing.
Two different models produced the set, and they disagreed about him in a way I decided to keep. One gave a darker, warmer Zeus at dusk on the mountain, more weathered and more human. The other gave a genuinely silver god above the cloud line with cold light on him and eyes that read as lit from inside. Both are true to the same character at different hours, so both are in the gallery rather than one being thrown away for consistency. Around a third of what gets generated is deleted; these earned their place.
The gallery runs to 605 images and is free to browse in full — no account, no sample gallery, no drip. A members account unlocks the full-resolution set, and individual pieces are available as digital downloads at 3840px if you want one for a wall or a project.
